Toni Kroos: Reus' injury didn't look good

The Borussia Dortmund star was clearly in pain after twisting his left ankle and the Bayern midfielder admitted his team-mate looked to be in distress

Germany are sweating on the fitness of Marco Reus after the attacker was forced off injured in Friday night's friendly against Armenia, with team-mate Toni Kroos admitted that the injury 'didn't look good'.

The Borussia Dortmund attacker had to be helped from the field by medics after suffering an apparent ankle injury just a minute before the end of the first half of the game in Mainz.

Reus had been left screaming on the ground in agony following a heavy challenge from Armenia midfielder Artur Yedigaryan, and Kroos stressed his concern.

He stated to ZDF, "It didn't look good at first glance. I hope he will be fit and ready because we need him."

Coach Joachim Low confirmed that Reus is to be assessed by doctors, adding: "He's in the hospital, undergoing a MRI-scan. We have to wait for the results.

"In such a situation you have many thoughts running through your head. During half-time we saw that his foot had swollen. I hope that he hasn't suffered a ligament injury and everything is okay."

The 25-year-old had been considered a certain starter for his country's World Cup opener against Portugal on June 16.
